Spirituality is our connection to the sacred and to a realm of direct "knowing." This knowledge is distinctly different from left-brain reason. It bridges the divide between faith and reason that can be so perplexing to us as we move into an uncertain future.
To explore the realm from which inspiration and compassion flow, Joan Borysenko and Gordon Dveirin interviewed 27 sages as research for their book Your Soul's Compass: What is Spiritual Guidance?. They identified a four-step process that results in greater freedom, creativity, and optimization of potential and purpose. In this workshop they will share that process:
- Alignment with a larger reality
- Discernment between guidance and misguidance-overcoming self-deception to know when we are being free, co-creative agents of conscious evolution
- Unfolding spirit into action--the use of spiritual imagination
- Retrospection of the spiritual guidance experience--providing the necessary feedback for recalibrating our soul's compass
These steps represent an essential spiritual discipline that transcends any particular religion yet is common to the mystic heart of all traditions.

Joan Borysenko, Ph.D., is a medical scientist, licensed psychologist, spiritual guide, and grandmother of six. She received her doctorate from the Harvard Medical School and was co-founder and former director of the Mind/Body clinical programs at Beth Israel/Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.
